The Burn Out
A darling friend I met along the C journey once described herself as having to be a project manager.
Ah-ha! Those words instantly resonated with me... 'I am a project manager!'
After all, I have been managing:
- Coordinating dates for treatments, surgeries, scans and everything in between;
- Traveling arrangements off island for all the above;
- Managing side effects of all the above... that is right, it is not just chemo or surgery that cause side effects. All the tiredness of travelling, the emotional rollercoasters of all the above and not to mention the commonly known term 'scanxiety' all bring their very own and unique side effects...
And as if all the above was not enough, add to the mix:
- Managing a strict wellness regime of nutrition, supplements, movement, meditation, rituals, affirmations...
- Researching the web and beyond until my eyes popped out...
My brain was about to explode!
One word to summarise all the above??? In fact, let me make it two words... TOTALLY EXHAUSTING!!!
After such a 'long journey' no wonder one is ready to crash... burn out even!
But here is the deal... all of the above gave me a new insight, a new modus operandi... three A's:
Accept
Assess
Adjust
Accept what is, without resistance...
Assess the situation: is this working for me?
Adjust what no longer serves!
Sometimes doing nothing is the best thing we can actually do!
